Varshel Arie,  an Israeli biochemist and biophysicist. The main focus of Varshelya’s research is on computational methods which are applied to the correlation structure function of biological molecules, the method of QM / MM modeling applied to enzymatic reactions, molecular modeling of biological processes, creating microscopic electrostatic models of proteins, the perturbation of the free energy in proteins and other methods. In 2013, Ari Varshel together with Martin Karplus and Michael Levitt was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for "the creation of multi-level models of complex chemical systems."
